The Marlow Murder Club is the first novel in a new cosy crime and mystery series from Robert Thorogood, the creator of the hit TV series Death in Paradise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plot<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Seventy-seven-year-old Judith Potts is blissfully happy. She lives alone in a faded mansion in Marlow, sets crosswords for The Times, and there\u2019s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One evening, while out swimming in the Thames, Judith witnesses a brutal murder. When the local police don\u2019t believe her story, Judith and two unlikely friends decide to investigate for themselves. Together, they are the Marlow Murder Club.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But soon another body turns up, and it seems they have a real-life serial killer on their hands. Now the puzzle they set out to solve has become a trap from which they might never escape\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Review<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I expected this to be along the lines of the Thursday Murder Club and, although the first protagonist is a 77 years old lady, this is not a book about aged investigators. Judith, the 77 year old in question, likes to swim naked in the Thames and solve puzzles. Crossword puzzles that is, not cold cases. It is only when she finds herself witnessing a crime, and the police not taking her observations seriously, that she becomes the real investigator. She is helped by two equally unlikely detectives : a dog walker and the vicar\u2019s wife. With friends like these, who seem to know or know of everyone in the local community, how can they possibly fail to solve the first murder in Marlow?\u2026.or the second?\u2026..or the\u2026..you get the picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A cosy romp of a mystery that zips along nicely. Just don\u2019t take it too seriously and you\u2019ll love it. Recommended.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
