The narrative transports readers to the Red House, Mr. Mark Ablett\u2019s bachelor pad in the tranquil English countryside. While visiting this welcoming location, amateur investigator Anthony Gillingham and his friend Bill Beverley look into the disappearance of their kind host and its connection to a covert gunshot.
In a humorous sequence of pranks, Gillingham and Beverley explore the probabilities of intriguing undersea evidence, secret passageways, and other atmospheric devices in between complex endeavours.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Plot<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Jenny, the heroine of the story, is an 18 year old orphan, who spends her life daydreaming. Her mind is occupied with an imaginary conversation when she absent-mindedly walks into her old home, now let to a respectable, middle-aged couple. Jenny finds, on the floor, the body of her long-lost Aunt Jane (actress Jane Latour) and suddenly realises that she is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Fearful of being accused of murder, Jenny goes on the run, aided and abetted by her faithful friend.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Described as \u201ca funny, lightweight mystery\u201d, this story was made into a film in 1936. Directed by Sidney Salkow, it starred Jeanne Dante, Kenneth Howell and Martha Sleeper, it was produced by Universal Pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
