The City Adventurers set off to celebrate a special (in lots of ways) anniversary in Grantham.
As well as a personal City Adventurers anniversary, we were joining a 1st wedding anniversary celebration hosted by Henry and Edith Gunn. This was Edith’s second marriage, as she had previously been married to Henry’s best friend George.
As we settled around the dining tables, listening to hits from the blitz (!) we were about to find out that life was not exactly a bed of roses for the young couple as, you’ve guessed it, we were at yet another murder mystery weekend!
The Plot
Officially, this was a double celebration – partly for Henry and Edith Gunn’s wedding anniversary and partly – as Germany had just surrendered – to celebrate the country approaching the end of World War 2.
As everyone knew, Henry had married Edith having promised his comrade George (Edith’s first husband) that he would look after her if George didn’t make it out of the trenches alive.
What everyone didn’t know was how their first year of marriage had been and, with the war about to end, if there would be trouble in store……
Trouble was certainly in store on the night. As well as Edith’s family, her ex-in-laws had been invited. Also present was nurse, Mary Goodwin. She was awaiting her boyfriend Alfred, an old friend of Henry and George’s.
As the night wore on, secrets were revealed and surprises exposed. And, of course, there was a dead body or two…….
A fun night where we almost got it right.
This time the organisers were Stirling Murder. Stirling Murder are a murder mystery events company based in the East Midlands.
This event took place at The Olde Barn Hotel & Spa in Grantham. Unlike other Murder Mystery events, we were very pleased to see the evening rounded off with a late night disco. A wonderful way to end the evening. Wish more murder mystery events ended this way.
